Earlier this week, CRG said goodbye to intern, Katherine (Katie) Sweeney, as she heads back to Purdue University to pursue her degree in construction management. Katie interned for our redevelopment division and provided excellent support to the entire team throughout the summer. We wish Katie all the best in her future endeavors and feel grateful to have played a part in supporting the future talent of our industry. Below is Katie’s personal recap of her internship with CRG:
This summer with CRG Residential I primarily worked with estimating. I assisted with things such as putting together bids, soliciting sub-contractor bids, and putting together budgets for redevelopment as well as new construction. I also had the opportunity to go along on a couple of job site visits.
My time here has taught me largely about the overall process of working on a construction project as well as provided me with general exposure to working in the field. I am also excited to see how what I have learned here will help me in my classes this fall and supplement the education that is still to come. For example, so far in my classes at Purdue we haven’t learned much at all about the estimating portion of a project. However, I know it will be a heavily covered topic in my classes this semester and hopefully I will now be able to better understand the material.
My experience here has confirmed that I do want to continue to pursue a career in the construction industry. Along with the confirmation, it has also broadened my horizons on the many different paths I could take within in the field. I enjoyed most working with everyone and getting to experience the many different aspects that goes into every project as well as the amount of time and care given to each one. Overall, I am very grateful for the experience and knowledge I have acquired this summer with CRG Residential.
